New York Is Finally Taking Its Coffee Seriously

New York Is Finally Taking Its Coffee Seriously

I think foresquare is ahead of the pack in location based services and will be really surprised if it hasn’t gone “mainstream” by the end of 2010

dear awesome restaurant I eat at or bar I drink at or place I go & spend money,
your life is about to change thanks to foursquare. soon, your opportunity to make A LOT more money will be standing before you. please take advantage.
how? you’ll have access to a range of information and statistics about your biggest fans:
who visits your restaurant
how often they visit
how they share online
and more!
foursquare is making it REALLY easy for you to meaningfully connect with your customers, drive word of mouth and increase sales.
a few use-cases:
encourage foot traffic with special events and discounts (e.g. free appetizer for groups of 4 or more; free drink to the mayor; free drink for every friend you refer; check-in on Tues between 8 and 9, get a complimentary appetizer…)
get feedback and insight on service, menu, etc. via tips people leave (reach out to negative, offer something nice; reach out to positive, say thank you)
use the web - if your fans tweet and use facebook, join and jump in the conversation (if you aren’t already)… this is another vehicle for sharing news, incentivizing and driving word-of-mouth.
get to know your fans - most importantly, people like to feel apart of something. get to know names and faces!

“Women shouldn’t feel like they have to stop being feminine to work in technology.”

I visited the Cooper Hewit National Design Museum to visit to check out the Design USA: Contemporary Innovation exhibit. Some incredible advances have been made in the last ten years in craft, architecture, technology and fashion that we often take for granted. (e.g.: of about 100 things on display, four of them were office chairs??) The best part was striking up a convo with the security guard who was a wealth of interesting info. He let us know that before it was the National Design Museum, the builing used to be Columbia University, and before that it was Andrew Carnegie’s home. The atrium we stood in while chatting? Designed by the same architect who did the BK Bridge.

Highly recommed the exhibit!

Lately.

I’ve seriously neglected my tumblr lately, so decided to fast forward to the present via photo montage. Highlights: Got a tattoo, saw some shows, visited a BFF in ATL, turned a year older, caught the winter blues, got over em, saw some more shows and… here we are today!

My roomie posting a Phish video on his Tumblr in my honor = love. Don’t know if hes heard a full Phish song in his life which makes this so special. :) Gosh, my friends are awesome.

wishing my specatcular roommate sarah a very happy birthday!!

(skip to 2:12 and pretend that they’re saying “sarah” instead of “leonard” and the wish is from me, not the phish fans of hampton, va.)

Braved the frigid air for the second day in a row to pick up some delicious eats from the NYC Restaurant Week Soup Truck which parked itself conveniently one block from my office.
I missed out on the lobster bisque on day one (they ran out before 12:30) but these both more than made up for it:
Butternut squash leek soup with cranberry beans and sage croutons from Nice Matin
Roasted winter squash and carrot bisque from ‘21’ Club
YUM! Can’t wait till I can afford to do a real restaurant week meal.

On Monday I was in a BAD mood. May have been that my plane was delayed 6 hours, getting me in to LGA at 2 a.m. and then almost straight to work at 6 a.m. May have been the crazy sideways rain and wind that nearly knocked me off my feet. Or, maybe its because the last Monday in January is known as the most depressing day of the year. Knowing that, I feel better already!

No better way to start the day than a sunrise jog in Central Park with my running buddy and roomie - makes me feel better all day.
